provided blast design and quality control for an Arizona highway
widening where tall sliver cuts in damaged granite had to be shot
using specialized horizontal hole patterns that would limit fly
rock and contain shot rock to the 24-ft-wide roadway.

worked with the blasting crew shooting a basement in granite within
100 ft of a $4.5 million, award-winning, multi level house constructed
of framed plaster walls. SGSI developed special timing, loading,
and fly rock protection procedures, and provided close field review,
that prevented any allegation of damage by the adjoining homeowner.

reviewed presplit blasting practices at a Mexican open pit gold
mine and made recommendations that cost-effectively improved wall
control in very hard, silicified sediments with weak, moderately-dipping
bedding planes.

in hard gneiss in an upscale neighborhood where over 400 adjoining

INSTRUMENTATION
AND PRE-BLAST SURVEYS

own equipment. SGSI also provides pre-blast surveys, investigation
of vibration damage allegations, and interpretation of vibration
time histories. SGSI also furnishes blast optimization using VOD
(Velocity of Detonation) instrumentation and optical/digital fragmentation
techniques.
